Senior HR Professional

United Kingdom or Canada · Full-time · Reports to CEO & Founder (Nazia M Thakur)

About the Role

We're going from ~8 people to 15-20 in the next 12 months. Right now, we have no HR function. No employee handbook. No structured interview process. No formal onboarding. No performance review framework. That's what you're building.

This is a from-scratch role. If you've spent your career maintaining HR processes someone else set up, this will be uncomfortable. If you've built HR infrastructure before and enjoy starting with a blank page, this is exactly what you're looking for. You'll work directly with the CEO and COO. No HR committee, no approval chains. You identify what needs doing, you propose it, you build it.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Create employment contracts and offer letters for UK and Canadian employees. Two jurisdictions, different laws, one person handling it.
  • Write an employee handbook that people actually read (not a 200-page document that exists for legal protection).
  • Design a hiring process: job descriptions, interview scorecards, offer workflows, candidate experience.
  • Lead recruitment for all open roles — sourcing, screening, coordinating interviews, closing.
  • Build onboarding that makes new hires productive in their first week, not their first quarter.
  • Set up performance reviews, goal setting, and feedback cycles.
  • Handle employee relations — you're the person people come to when things aren't working.
  • Advise leadership on compensation benchmarking, team structure, and people strategy.

Who We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of HR experience, with at least 2 years where you were the only HR person or built the function from scratch.
  • You know UK employment law well enough to draft contracts and handle disputes without outsourcing everything to a solicitor.
  • You've actually hired people — sourced, screened, interviewed, closed. Not just "supported the hiring process."
  • You can write clear, usable policies. Not corporate legalese — actual guidance people follow.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity. There's no HR playbook here yet. You're writing it.
  • Financial services or fintech experience is a strong plus — regulated industries have specific HR considerations.

Bonus

  • CIPD Level 5 or above.
  • Knowledge of Canadian employment law.
  • Experience hiring engineers and compliance professionals (hard-to-fill roles).
  • Experience in a remote-first or distributed team.
  • Familiarity with HR platforms (BambooHR, CharlieHR, or similar).

Compensation

Competitive salary. Open to part-time or fractional arrangements for someone senior who prefers that flexibility.
